Show Notes

Welcome to the #Idavox Report on The Revolution Radio Network!

Welcome to the #Idavox Report! This week, we will be celebrating the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth. June 19, also called Juneteenth, is the day in 1865 that it became illegal to own slaves in America. The caveat to this is that it is still sanctioned to use people as slave labor within the prison system. Human trafficking also still exists, although it is illegal.

Juneteenth

Despite its great significance, Juneteenth did not become a well-known holiday until quite recently. Part of the reason for this is a lack of Critical Race Theory in public school curriculum. We got news today that the Senate has unanimously voted to make Juneteenth an official American holiday. The House has to vote on it next, and then President Joe Biden will have to sign it. We hope to be celebrating Juneteenth as an official holiday at this time next year.

This is our last show before our in-person live event at The Coffee House in Edison, New Jersey! Check out the Facebook event page to get involved! Don’t miss it—it’s going to be great.

Right-Wing Bullshit Check-In

There is a market for grifting within the far right. This market accelerated under Trump’s presidency. People know that they can generate massive income through disingenuous fundraisers. Candidates frequently collect contributions without spending them on official campaign business. Political parties have even been known to create organizations for the sole or primary purpose of collecting donations.

Scott Presler is a gay conservative pro-Trump activist who has been hosting a series of anti-Muslim rallies across the country. Daryle attended one of these meetups which was held in New York and reports that a whole slew of villainous alt-right groups were in attendance. Scott Presler is not here to help. He’s here to hinder. He has been known to enter neighborhoods to do cleanups. However, he doesn’t talk to the communities to assess needs before he comes in and does as he will.

The Right In New Jersey

Darius Mayfield is an associate of Scott Presler who is trying to run for Congress right now as a Trump Republican. He was doing Presler’s bidding at a church in Newark, New Jersey and he brought QAnon dirtbags along with him. The panel predicts that Mayfield has no shot in the election because of how New Jersey’s elections are generally predetermined.

Before we depart for tonight, we want to bring it back to Juneteenth. Even though it’s a wonderful holiday, people still need to be careful. This year, in New Jersey, there is supposedly going to be a white power show on Juneteenth. The location of this event has been rumored to be at a roadhouse in Asbury, however, it is extremely difficult to verify this information.

If you appreciated our discussion tonight, please consider donating if possible. Christian does it at least once a month! When you contribute, it accelerates the growth of New Jersey Revolution Radio. We want to be able to afford what we need to bring you the best content possible. Thank you so much for making it happen! Until next week at 8PM EST, stay safe, everyone! Remember that a stream of #NJRR Live can now be found on the homepage of the NJRR website.

Be safe and stay informed, this weekend and always.

Teachers lead the way

In this episode of Wine, Women, and Revolution, Heather is joined by friend and comrade Melissa Tomlinson. Melissa has appeared on NJRR more than any other guest, because she is just that awesome. Melissa was Heather's very first guest when she started reporting for NJRR. That was just about a year ago, and you can check out a remastered version of that initial interview here. Teacher Strikes Melissa continues to be just as busy as ever. Her role as an education activist never ceases. Teachers are striking across the country. The phrase "Direct action yields satisfaction" proves itself true once again. She says the biggest news comes from West Virginia. Teachers there held a 2 day "Wildcat" strike in protest of legislation that opened the state up to charter schools. West Virginia is one of only a handful of states that prohibit predatory charter schools. Solidarity across the state West Virginia teachers spoke with legislators who ignored them. So, they organized in solidarity. Every county except 1 participated in the strike. Legislators pulled the vote because of the work of the teachers. This victory took a massive organizational effort and was years in the making. Grassroots 101 This kind of organizing doesn't happen overnight. Melissa says you might not even realize you are organizing when you begin. It starts with conversations. Identify other organizers to be a point person in each local area. NEA and AFT (two teacher unions) called for the strike vote once ...

Lets Talk Some Theory

In this episode of Wine, Women, and Revolution, Heather talks theory with her comrade Mason. This episode is an experiment in having drinks with some friends and talking about socialist theory. We recorded this episode back in January. After this recording, Mason lost their home in a fire. If you have the means to do so, please help get them back on their feet. Mason is a great comrade. Help now. Donate here For The People Mason is one of the organizers with the group For The People - AC. FTP helps organize communities to provide for their own material means. First, they provide resources to help communities organize themselves. Second, their support committee is for anyone who wants to help provide resources or volunteer. Finally, FTP directly engages with the community to provide political education and organizing. Alternative Organs of Political Power We recorded this episode near the end of the last government shutdown. But now, are looking down the barrel of yet another shutdown at the time of posting this. If the government is shut down long enough, things like food stamps and housing assistance will dry up. When these systems fail, people are left with nothing to rely on. That is why we need alternative power structures run by the people. Community members know what they need. Therefore, they should be in charge of saying how those needs are met. Those new structures are called Organs of Political Power. Share Yourself Don't be afraid to voice your feelings. If you ...
